British Shooting High-Performance Development Camp - 28th July–1st August 2021 - National Clay Shooting Centre, Bisley

In partnership with the Velos Association, British Shooting (BS) has created a new initiative to support emerging talent in the Olympic Shotgun disciplines. Inspired by the ground-breaking work done by BS’s World Class Programme, the team have harnessed the knowledge and experience of their highest qualified ISSF coaches and the energy of their current World class athletes to design a new development opportunity. The first High-Performance Development Camp is aimed at those new to the Olympic shotgun disciplines and will be held at the National Clay Shooting Centre, Bisley, 28th July – 1st August 2021.

Steve Scott, Olympic Bronze Medal from Rio 2016, who will be coaching on the Camp, said: “I have been exceptionally lucky that as I progressed in shooting, I have been greatly supported by friends, wise fellow athletes and coaches. At the Olympics the British Shooting team were fantastic and contributed enormously to my winning Bronze in Double Trap. Looking back to when I started, I can only think that it would have been a tremendous advantage to have attended a training camp to get a better understanding of the shooting athlete’s development journey. I am really looking forward to helping a new generation of athletes develop.”

A unique opportunity

This is a unique opportunity for emerging talent to learn in a dynamic and supportive development environment. The aim of the camp is to introduce young shooting athletes to the techniques they will need to create self-awareness, unlock potential and maximise performance. As well as helping athletes understand the components of great shooting performance, they will also be introduced to the techniques they will need to plan their own development journey.

Having graduated to the British Shooting World Class Programme, and as a coach in the Pathway, Georgina Roberts is the perfect person to lead the dynamic team in delivering this exciting initiative.

Georgina said: “The British Shooting High Performance Camp is such a fabulous initiative and a brilliant opportunity for athletes who wish to experience what it’s like to be on the World Class Programme. Having access to a camp of this nature is such a brilliant way of offering athletes a taster of what their future could look like, as well as granting them access to the highest levels of sport science resources.

“As someone who started out on the Talent Pathway and worked their way up, I feel as though I would have benefitted from a camp such as this in order to give me something to work towards in the future. I’m very passionate about supporting the success of our sport, and this camp is a fantastic way of encouraging young athletes to continue their development journey. I’m really grateful that British Shooting have given me to opportunity to support this project and I’m looking forward to seeing how athletes progress over the course of the week.”
